MTN Nigeria, Saturday, announced that armed robbers broke into its premises in Aba Abia State and made away with a large quantity of recharge cards of various denominations.

Making the announcement, Corporate Services Executive, MTN, Mr Akinwale Goodluck, however revealed that the company had immediately deactivated the cards according to standard operating procedure.

He warned MTN subscribers in Aba and environs to be careful when purchasing recharge cards in order not to buy the stolen but deactivated ones as the robbers may be tempted to sell them to hapless users.

He said that any of the stolen recharge cards will no longer be accepted by the network, adding that all the company’s Trade Partners in Aba and its environs had been duly notified so that they would be prepared should anyone attempt to sell any of the voided recharge cards to them.

“We wish to advise our numerous customers in Abia State and its environs to exercise caution when purchasing recharge cards. We urge our customers to seek out authorised MTN vendors so as to guide against picking up stolen and voided recharge cards,” he advised.

He also said that the subscribers could alternatively, consider recharging their phones through the Virtual Top-up (VTU) platform, which even provides customers with five percent discount for any amount of airtime purchased.
