ABEOKUTA- The Ogun State House of Assembly’s Committee on Lands and Housing yesterday said it had uncovered illegal sales of a government lodge in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The Committee vowed to probe and ensure appropriate punishment for beneficiaries of the alleged sales of the government property.

It said its preliminary findings had uncovered mind bugling unwholesome practices including illegal sales of government’s property in the state.

At a briefing heralding the Legislative Enquiry into the activities on acquisition, allocation, revocation, revenue and sales of government property between January 2004 and May 2011,

Chairman of the Committee, Pastor Remmy Haazzan, said “We will not be able to narrow it down yet but we have mind bugling revelations in our preliminary findings on the sales of government property in the state.

Haazzan, who was a Deputy Speaker in the last legislature, noted that the findings revealed that the state had lodge in Ijebu-ode and the property had been sold.

He kept mute over who allegedly sold or bought the property, saying that the committee was “not out to witch hunt anybody.”

He said, “The essence of the findings is to know; who bought the house; who sold it for the person, were the appropriate agency responsible for such exercises consulted? So, it will be an open exercise and we will welcome memoranda from members of the public on any matter that has to do with illegal acquisition of government properties, either by concession or outright sales of government buildings.”

The committee however gave a seven-day ultimatum to members of the public to submit their memoranda, adding that all memoranda would be treated to the letter.
