Jos – A House of Representatives member from Plateau State, Mr. Emmanuel Go’ar yesterday appealed to the National Assembly to use the planned fresh amendment to the country’s constitution to address the security challenges facing the country.
He made the call in an interview with newsmen just as he appealed to parties to the crisis in Plateau State to embrace dialogue in the interest of the state.
Go’ar who represents Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency noted that the constitution which makes governors chief security officers of their states but without power to control the security apparatus in times of crisis and cited the situation in Plateau as an example.
He urged the Federal Government to take necessary measures to confront the security challenges in different parts of the country if current efforts to revamp the economy are to achieve the desired results.
He said: “At present, there is no part of the country without its share of insecurity problems. It’s like the nation is under a siege. Those behind the uncivilized acts of criminality in various parts of the country must be fished out and punished.
“There is no way we can push for economic reforms or talk about Vision 2020 or NEPAD amidst chaos and insecurity and expect good result. It is time we realized that peace is a prerequisite to development”.
