TEAM Nigeria finished third in the overall medal position of the 10th All Africa Games with a great lesson that may turn the table in their favour in subsequent Games.

“Yes, we have found a new strategy to dominate future All African Games. We are going to pay more attention to combat sports like Karate, Taekwondo and Judo. We also have a long time Swimming development program. Once we do that, we will disarm South Africa’s dominance.

Swimming alone accounted for South Africa’s 33 gold medals. We have potentials in Swimming and more attention will be paid to them in terms of exposure. Imagine where we get up to 20 gold medals or more from Swimming and reap from our combat areas mentioned above and the powerhouses in Weightlifting, Wrestling and Powerlifting. Nigeria will be poles ahead of other countries.

We have deliberated on this plan and we are going to pursue it vigorously to ensure that we achieve it before the next All Africa Games in Congo”, Yakmut who was the Chef de mission of Team Nigeria to the just concluded All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique said.
