BAUCHI- The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Alhaji Muhammed Sidi, yesterday said that over one million Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, are to be resettled in Bauchi State.

Sidi spoke at the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, after conducting an inspection of the IDPs camps, saying that the agency would continue to collaborate with the state government to provide succour to the displaced persons.

According to the NEMA boss, the internally displaced persons were from Plateau, Borno and Kaduna states, even as he said the state government had done a lot to resettle the displaced persons.

According to him, the NEMA team was in the state on the instruction of President Goodluck Jonathan, who directed the agency to go round both Plateau and Bauchi states and identify the internally displaced persons with a view to providing relief materials and support for them.

“Bauchi State has the largest number of IDPs in the country from the record we have. There are over one million displaced persons that have relocated from Plateau, Borno and Kaduna states.

‘’The state has done a lot resettling these people, accommodating them and even taking care of their basic needs.

“We are here on the directive of President Goodluck Jonathan. Mr President has directed that NEMA should go round Plateau and Bauchi states to identify all the IDPs with a view to providing relief materials and other forms of support to them,” he added, adding that NEMA had been collaborating with the Bauchi State government in the resettlement and rehabilitation of the displaced persons, adding that that the inspection tour was “just an effort to strengthen the relationship between NEMA and Bauchi State in order to provide succour to the victims.”
