Calabar—Against the backdrop of threat by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram to bomb some parts of the country, local government chairmen in border communities in Cross River State, have deployed security agencies in the various entry points to monitor movement of visitors.

Chairman of Boki Local Government, Mr. Jonas Obi-Otu, at the grand finale 2011 of Ikom New Yam Festival, said as a council sharing border with Cameroon and close to Benue State, the security agencies were mounting 24 hours surveillance to ensure that any strange element coming to the area were captured.

Otu said reason for the surveillance was to ensure that the council was not taken unawares.

He explained that the state had been the most peaceful and that as the leading tourism destination, security remains paramount to the Governor Liyel Imoke led- administration.

Chairman of Obubra Local Government, Mr Chris Obasse, said the council had made efforts to ensure that private investors work in collaboration with the government through public private partnership to drive the tourism initiatives of the state government.
