Art Is Everywhere (AIE) 10, held at ABU ZARIA

Art Is Everywhere (AIE) 10 international workshop commenced on Thursday 8th September at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. The workshop featured 27 participants; seven foreign artists from the Gambia, Senegal, Togo and Benin Republic with 20 Nigerian artists. The artists engaged recyclable materials within Zaria environment as primary material for their creative expressions for a period of one week, after which workshop products were exhibited.

Participants from the Gambia include; painter, Malick Ceesay, textile artist and fashion designer, Amie Puye, and the coordinator of PACA Gambia, Modou Camara. Others are Artmerh Assogba from Togo, Ferreol Yamadjako from Benin Republic and Mor Faye alias Murf, the President of the Visual Artists of Pikine City (Dakar).

During the one week workshop, lectures and slide presentations on the use of recyclable materials were intermittently delivered by selected resource professionals like; Professor Tony Okpe, Jerry Buhari, Dr Ken Okoli, Ayo Aina and Chike Obeagu.

Art is Everywhere workshops are organized to create avenue for inter-cultural dialogue and artistic exchanges among young artists from various artistic backgrounds. It operates as a mobile workshop, with its venues shifting from one geo location to another in order to access some peculiar waste materials offered by different environments. Since the inception of Art is everywhere in 2005 over 200 artists have so far benefitted from the project.

The AIE workshop in Zaria was coordinated by mixed media artist, Ayo Aina (Kaduna), Dr Adele Garkida and Dr. Ken Okoli both of Fine art Department of Ahmadu Bello University, Chike Obeagu (Abuja), Ike Francis (Port Harcourt) and Okechukwu Eze (Lagos).

Art is Everywhere which was initiated in 2005 by Ayo Adewunmi in collaboration with Alliance Francaise Enugu, also aims at re-directing the focus of younger artists to the abundant creative resource materials in their immediate environment. It is expected that Art is Everywhere 11 in 2012 will hold in Ibadan at a date to be announced later.
