The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) directed its members to resume duties yesterday following the suspension of the industrial action in Kano. Kano workers last Monday embarked on an indefinite strike action following the non commitment of the Kwankwaso administration to implement the new minimum wage of N18,000

But in Imo, Anambra, Ogun, Kaduna and Ekiti the NLC vows to continue its showdown with the state governments.

…Strike disrupts JSS exams in Ekiti

In Ekiti, about 25,000 pupils  from the different parts of Ekiti State  who are to sit for the placement into  junior secondary schools  yesterday  suffered causalities of the ongoing strike action embarked by workers in the state, as teachers and officials of the state Ministry of Education  failed to turn in  for the conduct of the interview.

Workers resume strike in Anambra

In a surprised development last Thursday, workers in Anambra State held an emergency rally in Awka and began an indefinite strike over the implementation of the N18000 minimum wage.

The state government had last week announced that the new minimum wage was reflected in the August salaries of workers which sent smiles on the faces of the workers.

However, it appeared that when the workers got their salaries for the month, they discovered that government allegedly added only N10000 on their salaries which they argued was not in tandem with the agreed chart for the implementation of the minimum wage act.

Also, government offices, parastatals and commercial banks operating in Owerri, Imo state, were yesterday shut down on the directive of the state leaderships of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC.

…As Ogun workers strike against tax

Addressing a news conference in Abeokuta on Thursday, NLC chairman, Mr Akeem Ambali, condemned the tax regime of the current Ogun administration, saying it was against the existing tax law in the state. The declaration came on the heels of the introduction of a 300 per cent tax increase in the state civil servants’ pay.

Kaduna workers to strike

Kaduna state NLC has ordered civil servants in the state to start an indefinite industrial action as from Monday if the government failed to sign an agreement for the implementation of the N18,000 new minimum wage by then.
