AKURE- After seven days in the den of kidnappers, the lecturer in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Dr. Tunji Akinlabi has been released.

Information Officer of the University, Omololu Adegbenro in a statement in Akure, said the lecturer was hale and hearty.

Adegbenro said the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Adebisi Balogun appreciated the law enforcement agencies, the Nigeria Police and the State Security Services for their prompt action in ensuring that Dr. Akinlabi was set free unharmed.

He commended the media and other individuals and groups for their efforts in the release of the lecturer.

The Vice-Chancellor called on government at all levels to urgently find a lasting solution to the incessant cases of kidnapping in the society.

Professor Balogun called on members of the University Community to remain strong, focused and united as “we ward off the current security threat on the University System in Nigeria”.

Meanwhile, the released lecturer was prevented from speaking with newsmen.

He was said to be too weak to address the Press and that he was on his way to the hospital.

Report said that the kidnappers called the family on Wednesday to come to Edo State for him only to be told while in Edo, to return to Ondo state.

By the time the family returned to Ondo,  the lecturer was already at home waiting for them.
