Joint Kirikiri Community Development Association, CDA, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State has debunked recent publications alleging that oil tanks located in the community are causing environmental pollution and hazards.
In a protest letter by Oba-elect of Imore, Prince Ligali Shaibo and other elders of the community, the CDA condemned the protest letters earlier written by Kirikiri Creek View Residential Estate Association, KCVREA, kicking against the activities of oil farm tanks located in the area on the ground that they (oil farms) caused pollution and violating environmental laws.
In the letter, the CDA said rather than accusing the oil tanks’ owners and trucks of causing environmental pollution, accused the Creek Residential Estate Association of “causing disorderliness in the community by erecting a signboard of their association in the community without informing elders of the community.”
Their letter further said the Creek Residents, “also went as far as building a security post on the drainage constructed by the tank farm which was against the Lagos State laws.”
Rallying support for the tank farms, the CDA stated, “since the arrival of the tank farms, they have been cordial in their relationship with residents of the community, including youths and elders.”
It stated that some of the farms have built some infrastructure for the use of the community, especially the youths.
Insisting that it is the recognised body to speak on behalf of the community, the Kirikiri Town Community association said: “It was known fact that the Lagos state government created the CDA for the community to join hands and have common objectives for the development of their areas. And there is no other association greater than the CDA.”
It called on government and other corporate bodies to stop attending to individuals or group of people claiming to represent the Kirikiri community.
It also advice the Creek View Estate Resident to stop parading itself as the mouth piece of the community.
