Mr Jimoh Babatunde of Vanguard Newspapers was, Saturday, elected as Vice President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Lagos State Council.

At the election witnessed by officials of the national body of the union, led by Mr. Mohammed Garuba, National President, Babatunde defeated his only opponent, Mr. Qasim Akinreti, by 253 votes to 111 votes.

To this end, he, along with other officials of the chapter  elected unopposed, will run the affairs of the union for the next three years.

The other officials of the Lagos NUJ are : Mr. Deji Elumoye, Chairman; Mr. Sylva Okereke Secretary; Mrs. Kehinde Ajayi, Treasurer; Mr. Ayodele Ilori, Financial Secretary; Mrs. Eyitayo Ladi-Arowa, Assistant Secretary and Mr. Idowu Ogunleye, Internal Auditor.

In his acceptance speech, Elumoye promised to work along with other officials and the national body in taking the journalism profession to greater heights.  He said he will not let members of the Union down, promising to turn things around for the better.

He further stated that the newly elected officials will soon undertake a thank-you visit to all its member chapels, where it will unfold the seven-point agenda if the new executives.
