Nigeria chase medals as athletics start today

By  Jacob Ajom

Nigeria’s hope of earning gold medals at the 10th All Africa Games will today get a boost when events in athletics start in Maputo.Nigeria banks on the pole position of her athletes in the sprints, the jumps and the relays.

So far, it has been nightmarish start for the Nigerian delegation here and officials are wondering whether Team Nigeria were going to finish among the best three at the end of the Games.

According the permutations of the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Solomon Ogba, the target is ten gold medals.

However, the threat to his permutations is that Zimbabwe have a gold medal prospect in the women’s100m and Egypt too in the men’s 100m. In the women’s 400m, Botswana have a world champion in that category and she is in town for the Games.
