Ekeji to shock Table Tennis

By    Tony Ubani
Director General of the National Sports Commission, NSC, Dr Patrick Ekeji has promised to shock Table Tennis players and officials if they sweep the seven gold medals on offer at the All Africa Games here in Maputo.

Team Nigeria captain, Funke Oshonaike and other Tennis officials have promised to make a clean sweep of the seven medals. And they indicated interest dismissing their opponents in the Team events with fierce strokes and lightening performances that made all marvel. Oshonaike said that it would be a difficult task but said that it is realizable.

“It is a tall order but we are going to do our best. It is realizable and we want to do it”, the amazon whose amazing four appearances in the Olympics and six appearances in the All Africa Games make her one of the best players in the continent of Africa said.

And Dr Ekeji in response said that if Table Tennis give them seven gold medals, that he would shock them with seven gifts that would change their lives.

“They have pledged seven gold medals and I pledge seven gifts if they achieve it”, the DG said. Nigerian Table Tennis last swept the seven gold medals at stake at the 2007 All Africa Games in Algeria.

But with Congo having Chinese ping-pongers playing for them and Egypt breathing down on Nigeria, it might be a bridge too far to cross for the country.
