WARRI – IRRI community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State has petitioned the Police Service Commission over the killing of about 26 persons in a power tussle by a killer gang, allegedly formed by a former leader of the town.

The community in the petition, alleged that a senior police officer (names withheld) was shielding the sponsor of the killer gang from prosecution.

It also alleged that the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Zone 5, Benin City had been compromised and should hands off all Irri cases for justice to prevail.

Vanguard gathered that the community had already initiated contempt proceedings against the Inspector General of Police, AIG, Benin City, Mr. Joshua Uturu and others before a Delta State High Court sitting in Oleh, over alleged disobedience to an earlier order of the court.

According to the community: “There are over 26 corpses deposited at various mortuaries all over Isoko land and neighboring urban communities while  the principal suspect was arrested and charged to court, but six of the 13 persons recommended for trail jumped bail and are now at large.”

They said that a senior police officer stopped men of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Lagos from arraigning the suspects in court and took them to a police station in Benin City under the guise of further investigation, after which they were released.
