Umuahia-ANGLICAN Bishop of Umuahia, Reverend Ikechi Nwosu, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to order the reduction of military personnel on the streets in order not to portray the nation as being under military rule.
Nwosu spoke last Sunday during a sermon at an interdenominational service in Umuahia Township Stadium to mark the 20th anniversary of the creation of Abia State and Governor Theodore Orji’s 100 days in office.
He said if the presence of security personnel was not reduced ithe nation could not claim to be truly democratic.
Nwosu said security agencies cannot maintain peace in the country, insisting that peace could only come when individuals become their brother’s keepers.
Bishop Nwosu, Archbishop-elect of Anglican Ecclesiastical Province of Aba, also urged Governor Orji to take the message to the President. He said the governor should also ensure that he pursued programmes which would see the people as truly free.
The cleric also charged the governor’s detractors to retrace their steps, saying it was God that elevated the governor to his present position.
