Bauchi :  The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 25 members of the Sara-Suka militant group in the last one week in a renewed effort to rid the area of criminals.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, made the announcement in Bauchi while briefing newsmen on the activities of the command within the last one week.

He said the militants, who were arrested in various locations within the state, were involved in heinous crimes, including  culpable homicide, armed robbery, terrorism and arson.

Aduba said the militants had recently chopped off two fingers of the right hand of a highly placed government official.

He added that 12 machetes, two knives and some quantity of weed suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the suspects.

Aduba announced that the command had also arrested three men suspected to be NITEL cable vandals, noting that  a motorcycle and an electric generator were recovered from them.

He promised that the suspects would be charged to court after police investigations, and urged the public to assist the police with useful information on the activities of criminals. (NAN)
