Sokoto – Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State yesterday solicited support and prayers from traditional and religious leaders in the task of nation-building.
This was even as the state government has pledged to distribute 60 patrol vehicles with modern communication gadgets to security outfits.
Wamakko announced this when he paid Sallah homage to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III.
The governor expressed the hope that the vehicles would enable security agencies coordinate and implement various measures to enhance peace, progress and political stability in the state.
He reiterated the commitment of his administration to safeguarding the lives and property of residents through effective security, adding that “ We have put in place sensitive security measures aimed at providing a conducive atmosphere for our people, irrespective of political party differences to enhance peaceful co-existence”.
Wamakko urged the Sultanate Council to complement the efforts of the government by sensitising the people on the need to be security conscious.
He said: “Security matters should not be left in the hands of security agencies alone; we must work together by coming out with relevant information to apprehend suspected characters in our midst.”
Wamakko also appealed to traditional rulers to mobilise parents to monitor the conduct of their children and wards.
Speaking earlier, Abubakar commended Wamakko for initiating programmes which he said had improved the lots of the people.
He said: “We will continue to pray for you and support your government in the task of ensuring good democratic governance” .
The sultan also commended the governor for improving water supply in the metropolis and constructing bore-holes in different parts of the state.
