Kafanchan-Kaduna State Government, yesterday, imposed a curfew on Kafanchan following continued tension in the  area, even as four persons including two women were reportedly killed during a reception for the state’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Yero Ramalan.

Vanguard gathered that  the deputy governor’s entourage reportedly crushed the two women to death while some soldiers were alleged to have shot two others, following a stampede by youths who protested against the reception.

The two  incidents were said to have heightened tension in the town since the burning of six shops by unknown persons in the market Monday night.

The curfew starts from 11p.m. till 6 am.

The state Police Commissioner, Malam Ballah Mohammed,  said in a telephone interview, that, “the Commandant there called to inform me that there were some problems there. I don’t know if there was any incident of death; but there is no problem here (Kaduna metropolis).’’

He later referred Vanguard to the Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent, Aminu Lawal, who said: “The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State was being hosted during a traditional Sallah reception by the Emir of  Kafanchan, Alhaji Mohammed Isa Mohammed. He had a long entourage. Then, someone drove recklessly and hit a woman.

”I am not told that she is dead, but she was taken to the hospital. Because of the incident, some two other people were manhandled when some youths took the law into their hands. But we (police) have quickly moved in and restored law and order. From what I am told, three people are hospitalised over the incident.”

It was learnt that as soon as the incident happened, some youths started pelting stones at the deputy governor’s entourage leading to soldiers chasing them away.
