Having served three terms in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Honourable Kelechi Nwogu, representing Omuma State Constituency is all set for the Federal House of Representatives in 2023 after a unanimous resolution of the party’s leadership which saw him clinched the party’s ticket unopposed.

According to several sources, the call to contest for the House of Representatives was made from different parts of Etche nation comprising Etche and Omuma LGAs, demanding that he replicates the things he has been doing for Omuma people to the entire Etche ethnic nation. He was elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly in 20211. The people of Etche ethnic nation are yearning to have him represent them at the Federal House of Representatives come 2023.

The sources noted that in 2019, Hon Kelechi Nwogu had all it takes to clinch the ticket of PDP for House of Representatives, but because he is a loyal party man and one who puts the feelings of others ahead of his personal interest, he decided to relinquish his ambition and supported the incumbent lawmaker who later betrayed the PDP.

“Today, that call beckons on him to pick up the ticket of the party unopposed following a unanimous resolution of the party’s leadership. I’m delighted to inform you that Hon. Kelechi Nwogu is the consensus candidate of the PDP.

“After evaluating his capacity and track records at the Rivers State House of Assembly, we concluded that in 2023, for federal house of representatives, Hon. Kelechi Nwogu is indeed the change we need and the voice we deserve,” a source offered

Hon Nwogu is a member of the People’s Democratic Party. He was first elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2011 to represent Omuma State Constituency. He succeeded Hon. Emmanuel Okatta.

He was re-elected in 2015 and 2019.He had aspired for the 2019 Peoples Democratic Party’s House of Representatives ticket for the Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in 2019, but later withdrew for the eventual winner Chief Ephraim Nwuzi.

In the assembly, Nwogu at various times chaired the house committees on sports (2011) and local government and chieftaincy affairs (2015 and 2019). He has equally sponsored and co sponsored many bills and moved motions as a member of the state house of assembly.
