The Lagos State Government last week, said it has approved the construction of at least 100 roads along with drainage channels in the 20 Local Government Areas of the state. The projects which are billed to take off before the end of this year, are aimed at combating various environmental challenges in the state.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello disclosed this during the commissioning of seven public toilets built by the management of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area.

Bello said the state government is determined to reduce the impact of global warming in the state through provision drainages and rehabilitation of inner city roads in various local governments in the state.

The commissioner who promised to work with Ejigbo LCDA in the area of drainages construction and environment, said that the state government is ready to combat environmental challenges facing the state.

He appealed to the Lagosians to maintain a tidy environment, adding that climate change is a global challenge which everyone must prepare for to forestall the accompanying disasters.

According to him, adequate preparation will help reduce the impact of the associated climate change. He stated that the Fashola led administration is committed to rehabilitation on inner city roads. To this end, five roads will be constructed in each local government before December.

The council chairman, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, called on the state government to come to its financial assistance to enable it solve the plethora of environmental challenges facing it.
