Former Super Falcons handler, Paul Hamilton has said that the Super Falcons were as good s having qualified for the 2012 Olympics football event as Cameroon Lionesses don’t look good enough to stop them in this weekend’s qualifier in Abuja.

Speaking Wednesday, at the National Stadium in Lagos, the former national team coach said, “from the list of players invited to camp, I’ m confident the Super Falcons will beat their Cameroonian counterparts this weekend. I have no fear at all because I know Uche Eucharia started with the team as a player before becoming their coach.

I believe she knows what she is doing.” Hamilton charged the players to go all out to justify the confidence football fans across the country have in them.

“The only thing they can do for us is for them to win well so that they can be one step to the London 2012 Olympics before the second leg in Cameroon. I know they can do it,” the coach said.

Karate scribe optimistic of medals haul at AAG

Secretary of the Nigerian Karate Federation, Clement Iyaluegbeghe has expressed optimism on the team’s performance at the forthcoming All Africa Games billed for the Mozambican capital, Maputo.

Speaking to Saturday Vanguard Sports from Abuja, he disclosed that the athletes’ show at the last African Zone 3 Championship held in Ghana from which they came back with 11 gold medals out of  the possible 16, would serve as a springboard for a medals haul in Maputo.

“The performance of Karate in this year’s  All Africa Games will be better than other outings I am very sure. All I know is that we will win gold medals, but I cannot tell you the number of medals we will win.

“As per preparations for the Games, everything has been so well with the team in camp. We have been planning towards the Games in style as we started with a tournament to select  athletes.

“We had 44 athletes in camp initially, but have been reduced to 26. Two weeks ago, we were in Ghana for the Africa Zone 3 Karate championship where we won 11 gold medals out of the possible 16. This shows that we are on course for a haul of medals in Maputo. I am optimistic that we will do well at the Games given our preparation which has been solid,” Iyaluegbeghe said.
