Edo 2012: PDP ‘ll lose if it fails to reconcile – Obadan

*Wants Presidency to wade into crisis

BY SIMON EBEGBULEM

BENIN CITY—FORMER Deputy Governor of Edo  State, Rev. Peter Obadan, yesterday, warned that Governor Adams Oshiomhole would be returned unopposed in the  2012 governorship election if the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, failed to reconcile its members in the state.

He said Chief Tony Anenih and Dr Samuel Ogbemudia/Admiral Mike Akhigbe might not be able to set up an acceptable reconciliation committee, and stressed the need for the Presidency to wade into the crisis to brighten the chances of the party in the election.

Rev.Obadan, who spoke to Vanguard in Benin City, said: “The PDP is not in a position to challenge Oshiomhole as it is now.

“Chief Mike Oghiadohme tried his best and almost succeeded but for the position of one of two persons in Chief Anenih’s group.

“Aside from this, Oshiomhole has proven his worth and it will take an excellent candidate to contest against him. The only candidate in the horizon for now is Gen.Airhiavbere.  Failure of genuine reconciliation will return Oshiomhole unopposed.

“Placating the Binis with the governorship ticket will not alter the likeness and support the masses have for Oshiomhole in the South.”
