ADO-EKITI— Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has warned electoral officers working with the State Independent Electoral Commission, SIEC, against any electoral malpractice, saying the commission cannot afford to fail the people of the state.

Speaking yesterday during the opening of a two-day induction for electoral officers in local government areas by the commission, the governor urged the electoral body to conduct a credible and acceptable election in the state

He recounted the experience of the people of the state where some electoral officers aided electoral malpractice.

The governor noted that his administration was determined to conduct a credible council election because “bad things will no longer continue because we are determined to correct the wrongs. Electoral officers should be upright and persons of integrity. Their allegiance should be to the people and not to the government.”

Earlier, the chairman of SIEC, Chief Bosede Adelusi, said the success of the council poll rested on the shoulders of the electoral officers.

According to her, the induction was organised to refresh the memory of the officers and to prepare them well ahead of the poll so that they would be able to perform effectively.
