LAGOS — Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, Senator Remi Tinubu and other eminent Nigerians have extolled the virtues of the newly consecrated archbishop of the First World Goodnews Mission International, Dr George Irivbeme Amu.

Fashola and others spoke during Amu’s consecration as an archbishop and the celebration of his 70th birthday and the 43rd marriage anniversary, in Lagos.

Fashola, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, congratulated Amu for his elevation as an archbishop and prayed God to enable him to contribute to the development of Lagos State.

Speaking in the same vein, Remi Tinubu praised the new archbishop for his commitment to friendship as he had been a long time friend to her husband, former Governor Ahmed Tinubu, despite the latter’s religious affiliations.

She said Amu had been a family prayer partner and counsellor who was always with them at all times and prayed God to give him good health to continue his good works.

In his address, Amu who is also the Lagos State chapter Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), said he was grateful to God for His mercies and kindness, adding that he attained the age of 70 by God’s grace. He disclosed that he promised God that if He made him to attain 70 years that he will celebrate because his father died at 69.

Amu also called on all Christians and Nigerians to trust in God, adding that his grace endures forever. Highlights of the event were the consecration of the three new bishops of the church and they include Amu’s wife Modupe Omolara, Dr Charles Olusesan Odu and Rev.Reuben Ifouboa and a special church service where Pastor Chris Okotie ministered in which he lauded Amu whom he described as his father.
