ADO-EKITI—The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, in Ekiti State, Chief Bola Olu-Ojo has  called for a harsher punishment  against the President, Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, saying he committed a serious offence in the party’s opinion

A statement by Olu- Ojo in Akure yesterday said such a  punishment would serve as a deterrent to others who are expected to be a mirror of the society, but who are committing  crimes on daily basis  with impunity.

‘’The sanctions stand condemned as they were completely too soft for offence committed, it is expected that the NJC will recommend Salami’s dismissal from the judiciary rather than mere retirement,” the statement read in part.

The PDP Chairman therefore called on the Attorney-General and the Minister for Justice to as a matter of urgency arraign and try the suspended PCA for perjury to serve as a deterrent to others in the judiciary who believe that they can always go away with anything they do wrong in the society.

The PDP chieftain  equally,  condemned what he described as  the hypocrisy of some of  the  human right activists and the Conference of Nigeria Political Party (CNPP) led by Mallam Balarabe Musa  since the commencement of the activities of the NJC fact finding panels

Meantime, the state chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, yesterday advised the suspended President of Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Isa Salami to vacate office since he was challenging his suspension  by the National Judicial Council, NJC, in the court.

Chairman of the chapter, Mr Owoseni Ajayi , however appealed to President Dr.  Goodluck Jonathan not heed to the recommendation of  members of   the National Judicial Council, NJC,  that the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Isa Salami be compulsorily  retired.

Owoseni  who is a former Ekiti State Commissioner of Justice said, ”But personally, l want to advise Justice Salami to vacate office since he is challenging his suspension in Court, two wrongs don’t make a right.  So it will be better for Justice Salami to quit office for now and pursue his case to a logical conclusion.”
