After seeing his team score an amazing 13 goals in four matches at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, Flying Eagles Coach, John Obuh was left shell-shocked to see Nigeria exit the competition at the quarterfinal stage.

France ended Nigeria’s excellent run at the competition on Sunday with a 3-2 win after extra time at a capacity packed Pascual Guerrero stadium in Cali.

The hat-wearing Nigerian gaffer said that his players’ failure to take their chances in front of goal, contributed a great deal to the exit from the competition that they are yet to win despite several attempts.

“It is sad to leave the tournament like that. And I think it was kind of unexpected because we knew we could have won this match. But our effort wasn’t enough in the end. We had a great opponent and the match was very tight.

“I think the big difference is that they took advantage of the chances they created. Anyway, we leave Colombia very happy. I think after Colombia lost, the public adopted us and made us feel like locals. I told my guys that they can leave with the heads up because they played a huge tournament.

“It is a great generation as shown in the U-17 two years ago. I think they are on the right path to form the base of the senior national team in the years to come”, added Coach Obuh.
