Orji’s aide flays comments on Ojukwu’s health

BY LAJA THOMAS

LAGOS – An aide of Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State on Public Relations, James Okpara, has condemned the politicisation of the health condition of Dim Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, describing it as unfortunate.

Okpara, who spoke to newsmen in Lagos, weekend, said it was neither the practice nor culture of Ndigbo to make public what one has done for relations to attract commendation.

He was reacting to the alleged neglect of the former Biafran warlord by other states in the region.

Okpara said the perception by the public that other states in the South-East have abandoned Ojukwu who is receiving treatment in a London hospital is wrong and unfair.

He said: “Let me correct the impression in the media that other South-East governors don’t care for the Igbo leader, Dim Odumegwu-Ojukwu. It is clear that people are playing politics with Ojukwu’s name and health and it is rather unfortunate that such an Igbo icon should be so treated.

”Ojukwu is the greatest living Igbo man today. I can tell you that the South-East governors have been looking into the welfare of the Ikemba and have been rendering assistance in whatever form they can.”
