Abuja: Rangers International Football Club of Enugu on Wednesday in Abuja, defeated Unicem FC of Cross River to qualify for round eight in the ongoing Football Association (FA) Challenge Cup.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rangers FC smashed Unicem FC 2-0, in the group stage to rank among the eight clubs that would participate in the quarter finals of the game.

Sixteen teams played in different parts of the country to pick tickets for the round of eight.

Those at the FCT venue were Rangers FC, Unicem FC, Warri Wolves FC of Delta  and Ocean Boys FC of Yenagoa.

However, Coach Alphonsus Dike of Rangers FC, attributed the impressive performance of the team to the experience which the players had gathered in their previous game.

He said the boys were determined to scale through to the final and that was what brought glory to the team.

“We are happy at the moment because we prepared for it. Anybody going into the competition like this must always have the mind of winning and that is what we are celebrating,’’ he said.

He, however, expressed his optimism that the boys would get to the final stage to lift the trophy.
