…says he’s a victim of state persecution

KANO – The Family of Al Mustapha has urged the Federal Government to beef up security around Major Hamza Al Mustapha following alleged plot by faceless individuals to eliminate him in custody.

The concern was raised by the family as a result of startling revelation by Major Hamza Al Mustapha that exposed key role played by some prominent Nigerians in the June 12 fiasco.

Addressing newsmen in Kano after the family meeting, spokesman of Al Mustapha family, Hadi Al Mustapha stated that the family had in recent days received messages of plot to eliminate him while the trial last.

The family who described Major Hamza Al Mustapha as “a victim of state persecution” noted that “it sees no reasons why the authority should continue to detain him on an issues crown witnesses had openly retracted and eaten their words in court of laws”.

The family spokesman, Hadi Al Mustapha said, “we are extremely worried by threat coming from faceless individuals of purported plan to kill Hamza Al Mustapha in custody for exposing dirty details of June 12,  lamented that all those arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Kudirat Abiola, wife of late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola have been set free, stressing that the action further gave credence to views expressed above”.

The Al Mustapha family spokesman stated that the continue incarceration of the former security goon has started having a negative effect on the prestige of the Nigerian Judicial system, adding that “time is ripe for  stakeholders to rise up to the situation to save the judiciary”.

Major Hamza  Al Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha was hounded into detention by General AbdulSalami military junta in 1998 and had been standing trial over the alleged gruesome murder of democracy icon, Kudirat Abiola for the past 13 years.
