Chief Ayo Adebanjo
*Says al-Mustapha is hallucinating
*Prove Yoruba leaders sabotaged June 12 spirit, he charges
In this interview, Pa Ayo Adebanjo dismisses the statements of Major Al-Mustapha who is standing trial for alleged involvement in the murder of Kudirat Abiola, wife of late MKO Abiola. But Adebanjo says former head of state Abdulsalami Abubakar should come out and explain to Nigerians if it is true that funds were massively withdrawn from government coffers and whether it is true that the funds were used to compromise Yoruba leaders as being alleged by Mustapha.
Firstly, sir, when you heard about the al-Mustapha revelations, how did you feel?
Shocked but then I just told myself that this was a man who was just trying to say something, just about anything to either distract attention or get cheap applause
But what he said were very weighty and Yoruba leaders and their role post the death of Chief MKO Abiola?
What did he say?
He decided to mention the names of people who are dead. Why did he not mention these names when the trial was very fresh and when these people were alive.
He said they collected money.
Those people you know and I know you know them personally, are they the type of people who would go and collect money to scuttle something? Please!
But he came up with documents and letters showing cash withdrawals?
Okay, let us assume that he was making sense, I think the best thing in the circumstance is for the former head of state, Absulsalami Abubakar to come out and tell Nigerians whether bit is true or not that they withdrew the monies this boy said they withdrew.

Chief Ayo Adebanjo
Then Abubakar should also tell Nigerians whether they used the monies to settle Yoruba leaders.
And he should explain to the whole world what they actually used the monies they withdrew for.
He is alive and he should be the one to answer correctly.
In any case, was this not the same person who was part of those in government who tried to kill Pa Adesanya, the man escaped being assassinated like Kudirat Abiola, so what truth can come out of his mouth. Were they not the ones in government and for over four years they kept Abiola locked up in detention.
As he talked about what the incarceration of Abiola did to Abiola, his mental state, his health, his well being, the torture they put his family through.
Why should anybody believe what he says
What has happened is that he said government withdrew money, okay; they should tell Nigerians what they did with the money
On the Yoruba leaders he mentioned, what if…?
What if what? What did these leaders whose names he mentioned, what did they do to show that they compromised or sold out? Tell me, what did they do to show that they collected money and sold out or compromised? These are the issues that Nigerians should look out for and not be hoodwinked by somebody who is on trial and who is saying all sorts.
In any case, as I’ve said, Abdulsalami should come out and tell Nigerians what they did with the money.
We should even ask Mustapha whether it was just Ige and Adesanya that they gave all the money to on behalf of other Yoruba leaders or there are other leaders whose names he would mention later.
But the leaders visited Aso Rock and in the video clip that was shown in court, Mustapha said when the leaders were entering the Villa, they frowned and were looking angry but by the time they were coming out, they were all smiles and that may be some things had gone down?
Pa Adesanya and some NADECO leaders visited Aso Rock and it is common knowledge.
They visited Aso Rock to plead that Abubakar should allow them have audience with Abiola but Abubakar said for security reasons he could not allow them.
They discussed other matters of state and when they were about leaving, Abubakar called them back and handed over Pa Adesanya an envelope. Papa asked what was in it and the head of state said it was money. Papa then asked what it was meant for and he said it was to take care of transport.
Papa simply told him that he felt insulted that Abdulsalami was giving him money because he paid him a visit in Aso Rock.
Abdulsalami Abubakar is still alive, he should come out and tell Nigerians those he gave money to or better still explain to Nigerians what they did with the money they withdrew from government coffers.
