As part of efforts to improve on healthcare in the country, special training in specialised fields including Oncology and Neurology in Nigeria has been earmarked for specialist doctors.
The programme which is designed to hold on September 9, will focus on various training and skills upgrade will be provided by some international organisations.
The programme is parts of the Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes that would be unveiled during the sixth West African Health Conference and Exhibition (WAH 2011) in Lagos.
Dr. Wale Alabi Project Director, WAH who spoke on the essence of the programme said it is intended to bring high quality cancer and kidney management options closer to the people.
His words: “By training and properly educating our own doctors on the latest trends in oncology and nephrology, we are directly reducing the pains of having to travel far away abroad for treatment for many Nigerians. This means more families will have more resources at their disposal to pay for school fees, feeding and other necessities that will ultimately lead to improved standard of life for many Nigerians.”
Expected trainers include Professor J.t.K. Duncan, a professor of Radio therapy at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Dr. Ashok Vaid Oncology, Chairman, Institute of Oncology at Medanta, Hospital, India.
