Segun who panicked over the urgency of the task before him, picked up courage when he got a brief description of the shipment and the telephone number of the customer to follow-up.

L-R: Teju Olasehinde, Olusegun Ihidero and Oluwagbemiga Zaccheus, all staff of DHL Express Nigeria.

When Segun dialed the customer’s number to confirm his position, the customer in clear terms told Segun he needed to move a sensitive and temperature-controlled shipment from Lagos to Mumbai International Airport, Chennai, India through DHL within 48 hours.

According to Segun, he knew he was not alone hence he enjoyed the support of a team prepared for the task. DHL is thriving in business because of team spirit the company possesses.

From studies it was gathered that samples like that are sent to a stem cell bank in Chennai, India.

Stem cell technology requires that, if the blood sample and the umbilical cord tissue of a day-old baby can be taken, it must be preserved in a blood bank should in case the child in future requires blood transfusion .

This also applies to the tissue taken as it can be used for producing bone marrow and other soft tissues in the body, if existing ones are diseased or damaged.

When Segun asked where is the baby, the man replied, still in the mother’s womb while the expected delivery date was June 10 or 11. On the processes Segun understood that the case was going to be a serious one that demanded immediate attention if the baby must live.

It happend that the expected baby was born early Saturday, June 11 and immediately DHL processed all the necessary documents for the shipment at exactly 12:00 hours same day and within the next 48 hours the shipment was delivered.
