Islamic banking: Activist blasts critics

SOUTH-South politician and activist, Chief Richard Lamai, has advised Christians who felt uncomfortable with the establishment of  Islamic banking or non-interest banking to establish theirs.

He said: “The present tension in the country over the proposed establishment of a non-interest bank as announced by the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is very unfortunate.

“It shows that both Muslim and Christian elite who  are expected to guide the nation to development and greatness for the future of the country are busy fanning the embers of division.”

Lamai noted that the biggest problem facing the country today was corruption, adding that it cuts across Christian/Muslim divide.

He asked: “What have the leading faiths done to curb this cankerworm that has stalled the development of Nigeria in the last 50 years?”
