By Emma Arubi

WARRI – A 19 year-old boy, Gift Wawe, playing football with mates at a sand-filled spot at Esisi Road, Warri, Delta State, was crushed to death by a driving instructor whose name was given as Mr. Ogochukwu Obi.

A community leader, Mr. Isaac Botosom, told Vanguard that the field was not a  training ground for drivers, noting that it was wrong for the instructor to have chased the youths with his car.

Vanguard gathered that immediately the instructor rammed into the deceased, he sped off leaving his trainee behind who was apprehended and taken to Okere community before being handed over to the police at the “A” Division.

Police team from another Division in Warri later recovered the killer’s vehicle and brought it to the “A” Division.

When playmates of the late Wawe got to the police station in protest, they smashed the windscreen of the blue Volkswagen car, leading to the arrest and detention of two of them.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ugochukwu was reported to have taken refuge at a private clinic pretending to be injured, when Police and lawyer to the deceased got the information and stormed the hospital.

He was later taken to the “A” Division, Monday night. The remains of the deceased had been deposited at the Central Hospital morgue.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Char-les Muka, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
