Flying Eagles top star Ahmed Musa will observe the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which began on Monday, at the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims are expected to go without food and water during daylight hours.
And despite the huge demands on physical fitness at Colombia 2011, the VVV Venlo ace has said he will also fast.
Musa stood out as the Flying Eagles beat Guatemala 5-0, scoring a goal and making an assist.

The other Muslim starters in the team, Gani Ogungbe, skipper Ramon Azeez and Abduljaleel Ajagun, are also observing Ramadan.

Coach John Obuh, who has worked mostly in the Muslim north, says whether to fast is each player’s personal decision.
Another team official assured that the fasting would not have any adverse effect on physical condition of the players, insisting that they will get special favour from Allah for making the sacrifice.

”There some Christians in the team, like Philemon Daniel and Dami Paul, who also fast even on match days and this has not affected them,” the official says.
