By JOHNBOSCO AGBAKWURU

Calabar –  Paramount ruler of Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State, Muri Munene Effiong Mbukpa, has promised to mobilise the people of Calabar South to plant trees to check the menace of flood, which had rendered many people homeless in Calabar metropolis.

Muri Mbukpa, who made the promise when Board members of the state Forestry Commission visited him at his palace, urged the commission to press on government to restore and promote the state’s ecological system.

He said that he will also mobilise people outside his domain for tree planting, adding that apart from checking the flood disaster, it will also ensure a clean environment that would promote healthy living.

He commended Governor Liyel Imoke for flagging off the tree planting campaign in the state, adding that the idea was to keep the forest standing and reduce the devastating effect of climate change on the people and environment.
