Customs dismisses four officers for misconduct

BY EMMA UJAH
ABUJA— Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Inde Abdullahi, yesterday dismissed four Customs men for gross misconduct.

The dismissed men are: Customs Assistant Grade/II (CA/II) Zaharadeen Ishiaku; CA/II  Mani  Aminu; CA/II  Mustapha  S. Manir  and CA/II  Yahaya I. Abdullahi.

A statement by Customs boss in Abuja said: “The Customs men were arrested by a military patrol team on July 13, 2011 at a beer parlour in Mabushi,  Abuja drinking alcohol, displaying fire arms and conducting themselves in a manner that clearly contradict their calling as trained security personnel

“Possession of fire arms off duty, drinking alcohol while mingling with women of easy virtue in a hotel is at variance with the new face of the Nigeria Customs Service that places high premium on discipline and professionalism”.

The statement added that the dismissal was a demonstration of the Abdullahi administration’s zero tolerance for indiscipline, abuse of office and intimidation of Nigerians, whom the officers are paid to protect.
