Fast-rising singer and rapper, Chigozie Olewunne, better known by his stage name Icegrin, is one artiste who strives to distinguish himself as what he described as “a complete entertainer” because of his distinct musical style.
Born and bred in Lagos, Icegrin said his career has enjoyed tremendous support from fans and music lovers, pointing out that his background and environment contributed largely to his choice of music as career.
Speaking about his growing up days, Icegrin revealed how living with his grandma inspired his music career. According to him, growing up with my grandma contributed to when and how his music started. “She always complained that my music, which she referred to as ‘noise,’ was disturbing the entire neighborhood.”
According to the artiste, he began creating songs at the age of 11 and recorded his first song, Te Amo, with his best buddy and producer, DJ Zeeez, in 2017.
“Growing up, I was fascinated by genres such as trap, rap, RnB, and a tiny spice of afrobeat,” Icegrin said of his musical influences. Khalid, 6lack, Alpha P, and Rema are among the artists I admire. My music defies categorization, yet I characterize it as having a “afro-electro flavor.”
“I constantly want my music to stand out from the crowd, which is why I experiment with different sounds to produce something unique for my followers and music enthusiasts.”
