LAGOS State Ministry of Special Duties and Lagos Emergency Management Agency,LASEMA, has released flood victims, who were internally displaced by the October 2010 flood  which ravaged seven communities in the state.

The victims left the Agbowa relief camp yesterday after spending ten months.

Speaking at the event, the state Commissioner for Special Duties  Dr. Wale Ahmed, disclosed that the state government has successfully rehabilitated the affected persons  within the period they spent in the camp.

According to him, “What happened to you touched the heart of Gov  Fashola and all Lagosians. It is based on this reason that you were housed here in order to give you hope and properly rehabilitate you.”

I am happy that after spending ten months here, you are leaving with smiles. The state government and all the relevant agencies ensured that you are well taken care of.”

Ahmed noted that the victims were not supposed to stay long in the camp, noting that the need for proper resettlement necessitated for the long stay.

“Although you were not supposed to stay long but we needed to properly resettle you. In addition the rains are very severe this year and  we can not write off the possibility of another flood, hence there is need for this people to move away have n received the best of attention from the government.”
