London 2012 Olympics: Team Nigeria on track – NOC

The Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, joined its counterparts all over the World (Thursday) to celebrate with Great Britain  as they marked one year to go until the 2012 Olympics.

The British Deputy High commissioner, Robin Gwynn set the tone at his Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi when he said that with one year to go, they were ready to deliver the best Olympics ever in London.

The London 2012 Games, according to him is already changing lives through the International Inspiration Programme set up to reach young people and connect them to the power of sport.

The programme has reached 10.8 million children in 16 countries. In Nigeria, the International Inspiration project is promoting international school links between the UK and Nigeria, allowing teachers and students to share new ideas and experiences. The project has helped build the capacity of over 150 teachers and coaches across Nigeria to delver high quality physical education and sport.

Speaking at the event that was attended by Paralympians and ex-Olympians and administrators, first Vice President of NOC who represented NOC President, Engr Sani Ndanusa, Dr Jonathan Nnaji promised that Team Nigeria would compete for medals with other nations and not participate.

“Team Nigeria is on track for a good outing”, Nnaji who is also President of Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria said but did not  engage in any medal predictions.

“The qualifiers are still on but from the standpoint of our willingness and our effort to compete, we will do well in London”, he said. He however congratulated Great Britain for their state of the art facilities for the Olympics.
