Calabar – Due to accommodation problem, some consultants at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, now attend to patients in their cars, Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Thomas Agan has said.
Dr. Agan, said that the dearth of infrastructural facilities will not deter the management of the hospital from ensuring that the hospital remains among the best in the country.
He said: “The authorities of the University of Calabar have come to the rescue of the hospital by providing accommodation for some of the consultants,” noting that the task ahead was to make sure that the hospital relocates to its permanent site.
Agan added: “We are doing well if not for the challenges of infrastructure, majority of the consultants do not have offices as they work from their cars. We are working toward providing office accommodation for them and this will go a long way to solve the challenges we have.”
The CMD noted with regret that the UCTH remains the only second generation tertiary hospital that still operates from temporary site, which contributes to the increase in the overhead cost of the hospital, assuring that the management will overcome the challenges and make the hospital a centre of excellence.
