AWKA— ANAMBRA State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhtari Ibrahim, weekend, charged traders and residents of Onitsha to be security conscious.

He said doing so would reduce the prevalence of armed robbery and other violent crimes in the area.
According to him, the issue of providing security to the entire city is a collective responsibility of the police and the people.

He said: “We are aware of the security challenges across the country in recent time, but we are also aware that the issue of security is a collective responsibility. Therefore, I want everyone to adopt personal security wherever he lives.

“It is obvious that giving out information about suspicious persons or movements around your area to the police is a very big security you have given to yourself and your neigbours.

“When you give such information to police, don’t go about telling people that you provided such information and be rest assured that the police will protect your identity for providing such information.”

“But you must make sure you have your facts before giving out such information,” the CP said.

The area commander in charge of Onitsha, Mr. Larry Osita, said the crime wave in the city had reduced drastically through efforts of the police, in collaboration with other security agencies in the area.

He called on the residents and stakeholders to join hands to safeguard the city.
