LAGOS — Following the spate of bomb blasts across the country,Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Engr. Omar Suleiman, has called on authorities of the Nigeria Police Force to deploy bomb experts and scanners in the gates of the nation’s ports.

Suleiman made the call in Lagos when he hosted the Commissioner of Police, Explosives Ordinance Disposal Unit, Mr. Ambrose  Ogbemudia.

He  called on  Ogbemudia to ensure better security in the Ports, by assigning more vigilant bomb experts to the gates to monitor vehicles coming in and going out as well as smaller boats operating along the channels.

Chief M. Ajayi, General Manager in charge of Public Affairs of the NPA, said the NPA boss assured the Commissioner of Police, that the NPA would assist the command to procure some  equipment as part of its corporate social responsibility.

The NPA boss said he would consult with the Nigerian Customs Services on whether it could deploy scanners in the gates of the ports.

Earlier, Mr. Ogbemudia noted that NPA was strategic and synonymous with the nation’s economy and as such the Federal Government was interested in its affairs.

Mr. Aisabor added that with security challenges in the country, the police was doing its best to bring the situation under control with emphasis on prevention rather that cure.

While assuring the NPA of the provision of manpower from the Anti-Bomb command, he solicited the support of NPA in the provision of some of the equipment needed.
