LAGOS — Policemen attached to Olosan division have arrested a woman over the alleged murder of her three-day-old baby, in Mushin area of Lagos.
The baby’s lifeless body was reportedly discovered inside the ceiling of the suspect’s apartment on the fifth floor of a building along Agege Motor Road.
Circumstances surrounding the death of the baby could not be ascertained yesterday but Vanguard gathered that the corpse was concealed inside a black polythene bag. The baby, it was learnt, was the eighth child of the suspect.
Trouble started for the woman after neighbours who suspected that the baby could be in grave danger, alerted the Police, following the discovery of a bucket filled with blood in the couple’s apartment. On inquiry, the woman reportedly explained to her neighbours that the blood was from an injury her baby sustained on the leg. But effort to see the baby was rebuffed.
The bubble eventually burst after a carpenter, who was effecting repairs on a leaking zinc, called the attention of the landlord, on sighting the blood stained nylon.
Her husband, Sodiq Olaomo, a trader at Ladipo market, was later picked up by the policemen. Investigation, according to Police sources at Olosan, had begun.
