Obisia urges boxers to justify selection for Games

Lagos- Obisia Nwankpa, Head Coach of Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), has said that boxers to the All Africa Games (AAG)  in Mozambique will  need to justify their selection.

Obisia said on Thursday in Lagos that 25 boxers were currently in closed camp in Benin, preparing for the Games which come up in September.

He said that as part of the preparations, the boxers would engage their Ghanaian counterparts in an international contest on July 30 in Yenagoa.

“The contest would afford us the opportunity to properly assess the boxers in a real fight situation and to correct perceived flaws in subsequent training sessions.

“Our aim is to pick the very best of the boxers from the lot we currently have in camp.

“The final selection of boxers for the AAG would be based on merit and hard work,‘’ he said.

Obisia said the Benin camp was quite conducive for their preparations and that the boxers were responding well to the outlined training schedules.

“What we want at the end of the day is the emergence of energetic and enterprising boxers from this group to represent the country in Mozambique,’’ Obisia said. (NAN)
