Yenagoa—A middle-aged lawyer, identified as Mr. T. Akonbo, was reportedly crushed to death at the Yenizue-Gene suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
The mutilated body of the deceased, it was learnt, was discovered near a bank in the area along the Mbiama-Yenagoa Road, Monday.
Vanguard gathered that the deceased was knocked down by a hit and run driver who was later arrested by the police.
State chairman of the Yenagoa branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Stanley Damabide, who lamented the death of the lawyer, expressed fear that he might have been shot dead.
However, the Bayelsa State Police Command claimed that Akonbo, who hailed from Toru-Ebeni community in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state, was not shot dead.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Eguavoen Emokpae, said Akonbo’s corpse had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Yenagoa.
