Nigerian-born singer, Gerian reveals musical influences

Gambia-based, Nigerian-born singer, songwriter and performer, born Ikponmwosa Alex Idehen, better known as Gerian in the music space has risen from an ordinary beginning to stake a claim on the music scene with his own unique style of music, which has not only distinguished him from others but has set him adrift on a musical quest.

Going by the quality of legends Gerian revealed had shaped his artistic DNA, it is not out of place to expect the Benin Prince to succeed. And going by what he has achieved in a little time on the scene, it does appear there is a star in the making.

“My style of music is inspired by Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Fantan Mojah, Buju Banton, Youssou n’dour and many others. I promise to impact life positively with my music,” he says.

Ikponmwosa Alex Idehen, a.k.a Gerian was born on the 11th of September, 1994 into the royal family of Benin City, Edo State.

He spent his early life in the beautiful city of Benin, Edo State, where he later on moved to Gambia to further his education.

For as long as he could remember, music has been an integral part of his life. He describes his style of music as Afro-Pop, a genre with a blend of Afrobeat and Dancehall.

‘He has two songs which are available on all streaming platforms titled “Matter” and “Abena” trending on TikTok.

Gerian has been doing music for several years but his very first professional effort took shape during the #EndSars protest that shook Nigeria in 2020.
