ABUJA-The Bishop, Diocese of Kubwa, Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd. Duke Akamisoko, yesterday, called on state governors incapable of paying the N18, 000 minimum wage to vacate their offices and give room to masses-oriented government.
Bishop Akamisoko, who made the call while briefing newsmen on the forthcoming synod of the Diocese in Abuja, described the governors as “the men who lack ideas to run the country”.
The cleric noted that the money was not even enough to make a meaningful life style, adding that if civil servants worked for the money, they should be paid without negotiation to avoid the impending strike by Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.
The bishop also urged civil servants to be productive and urged the governors to evolve workable ideas that could boost their state’s internally generated revenue, without putting unnecessary burden on the masses.
He said: “N18,000 minimum wage is not enough for a meaningful life style; any government that cannot pay should leave office.
“For me, such governors who cannot pay are short of ideas and they should vacate their seats. We have a civil service that is not productive, the civil service that depends on oil every month.
“There is no department that cannot generate income to pay themselves. Therefore, the issue of not being able to pay should not arise. These men lack the ideas to run this country.”
He allayed people’s fear on security challenges, saying measures had been put in place to ensure safety of lives of the over 1,000 delegates coming for the synod.
