IN order to fulfill his electioneering campaign of cutting down school fees to affordable level, Governor Abiola Ajimobi yesterday ordered a 50 per cent reduction in the last increase in tuition fees of tertiary institutions in the state.
The reduction of fees in the institutions which will take effect as from next session was announced at a meeting with heads of all tertiary institutions in the state.
The meeting, according to the governor’s Senior Special Adviser on Public Communication, Dr. Festus Adedayo was called so as to deliberate on reduction of school fees for all tertiary institutions in the state.
It would be recalled that the former governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, had increased fees payable in all tertiary institutions in the state by a 100 per cent before his departure.
The governor said the directive was borne out of his concern for the welfare of students in the institutions and in fulfillment of his electoral promise to the people.
The governor recalled that he had promised that he would reduce tuiton fees in tertiary institutions in the state as a way of addressing the challenges faced by students in the state.
