THE National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has described the increment of the monthly allowance of members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, by the federal government as a welcome development and commended the Director-General of the scheme, Brig.-Gen. Muharazu Tsiga, over the feat.

President of NANS, Comrade Bassey Etuk Williams, at a briefing, hailed President Goodluck Jonathan and Brig.-Gen. Muharazu Tsiga for their commitment to the well being of the Nigerian youths and noted that this would further motivate the youths to strive to be patriotic.

Bassey said the upward review of the monthly remuneration of the corps members from N9,700 to N19,800 deserved the commendation of NANS and declared that the generality of Nigerian students at home and abroad were  grateful to the President.

He advised state  and local governments to take a cue from the Federal Government, urging governors and chairmen of local government councils to also increase their statutory allowances to  corps members that will be posted to their territories for primary assignment.

NANS called on NYSC to be cautious in the deployment of the corps members because of their safety.
Bassey tasked all security operatives in the country to be alive to their responsibilities by ensuring the safety of lives of the corps members and the entire citizenry.

He said after their study in their respective institutions of higher learning, corps members had great potentials if they were allowed to stay alive.
